About Us

Our Story

In 2017 The Milpitas Police Activities Executive Board approved the creation of a Milpitas PAL Rugby Club. The move was primarily motivated by an absence of rugby clubs available to girls within Santa Clara County and the Greater Bay Area. Although girls were allowed to play on U12 co-ed teams, nothing was available to middle school and high school girls closer than Pleasanton or Sacramento. Two dozen girls participated in a 2017 Summer Rugby Academy. In the Fall of 2018 The Guard Rugby Club was formed. Milpitas PAL supported a High School Girls 15s team, a Middle School Girls 7s team, a High School Boys 15's team, and created a co-op with local United Youth Rugby Bay Area to facilitate play for several Milpitas based Middle School boys.

In 2018 high school and middle school girls traveled anywhere from South San Francisco to Monterey to play with Milpitas PAL Rugby. Finally, a void had been filled. In 2019 Milpitas PAL's success prompted the creation of a Menlo-Atherton high school girls rugby club in San Mateo County. Five of our original players returned to their home county to play at the core of that new club.

In the Fall of 2019 Milpitas PAL Rugby sponsored the formation of two school based high school rugby clubs at Milpitas High School and Gilroy High School. These clubs were able to field High School Girls 7s teams to represent their schools among 20 teams through Northern California. One of the two regional tournaments was hosted by Milpitas PAL Rugby and The Milpitas High School Rugby Club at Milpitas High School.

Milpitas PAL Rugby supports both boys and girls rugby but has served as the heart of girls rugby in the South Bay over the past several years. As our original players are now moving into college have been actively recruited by colleges, universities, and military academies across the country. Rugby is a sport, a culture, a family, and an opportunity to grow in all aspects of one's life. Milpitas PAL Rugby invites local youth to join our club.
